How Much Glory is a Lot?
Sample Glory Table
| Glory Gained | Category |
| 1 | Minimum |
| 10 | Ordinary |
| 100 | Heroic |
| 1000 | Extraordinary |
Sometimes the nature or the circumstances of a deed warrants a bonus to the Glory given. Gamemasters and players both
should be alert for unusual situations, desperate successes, exciting solutions and dramatic incidents that might warrant a
bonus.
Some reasons to award extra Glory might include:
These formula offer suggested methods for awarding combat Glory. See the “Game Mechanics” chapter for terms used in this table.
Normal Combat Against a Knight
This includes most normal combat. The victor gains this Glory even if the loser surrenders and is spared by the victor's
Mercy.
Glory = total of all the loser's skill value(s) that were used in the combat + 1% of the loser's Glory.
Typically 30 for an Ordinary Knight (15 skill + 15 for Glory), 65 for a Famous Knight (20 skill + 45 for Glory.)
Combat Against a Knight “For Love”
Any normal joust or other friendly challenge, including most chivalrous challenges; combats using rebated or wooden weapons;
combats continuing only to first blood or knockdown; most combats at tournaments.
Glory = 10% of Normal Combat Value.
Typically 3 for an Ordinary Knight, and 5 for a Famous knight.
Combat Against Inferior Foes
These are all non-knight enemies: bandits, squires, foot soldiers, sergeants, etc.
Glory = total of all the skills used by an average enemy (Axe, Lance, Riding, etc.).
Typically 10-45 points.
Combat Against Animals or Faerie Beings
These beings vary tremendously, but a basic rule can be suggested:
Glory = total of creature's primary combat skill, armor, and hit points.
Typically 5-100 points.
Here are some examples of high Glory amounts as gathered together from various sources. They are suggested amounts, and your gamemaster may have his own standard, but it probably follows these in ratio.

Use these guidelines as the starting point for Glory awarded. Defeating EnemiesConsider “defeat” to mean that the enemy surrendered, or was captured, incapacitated, or killed. If the enemy's plans were
defeated but he escaped, no Glory is gained for the defeat (but see “Successful Tasks” later in this table). Knights Other Human Foes Animals, Monsters, and Magical Beings
Skill SuccessAny successful use of a skill in an important or critical situation may warrant a Glory award for the action. One-time Honors, Titles, and CeremoniesGlory is gained for receiving the honors that are significant to a knight and his society. This one-time Glory is received
at the end of the year. Getting MarriedWhen officially wed, the husband and wife each collect Glory equal to the Glory of their spouse, up to a maximum of 1000
points. If a spouse has in excess of 1000, the extra points are not gained. Conspicuous ConsumptionGenerally, each 1 £. spent gets 1 Glory. However, money spent over 100 £. gains only 1 Glory per 10 £. spent. So a gift of 120 £. would gain the giver 102 Glory. Sponsoring a Tournament Quality of Maintenance Holding LandThis Glory is received annually by the knight enfeoffed. See the “Ambitions” section of the chapter for more information.
Annual Glory = the year's income in £., up to a maximum Glory of 100 for one year. Even King Arthur receives only 100 Glory
per year for his vast holdings of land because of this important maximum. Holding CastlesThis Glory is received annually by the knight enfeoffed. It is collected annually, up to 100 maximum per year, as with
land. All Traits and PassionsAny trait or passion of 16+ gains Glory equal to the value each winter. IdealsMeeting the requirements for a Chivalrous or Religious Knight gains the character 100 Glory each winter, in addition to
points gained from the required traits. Battle ParticipationAwards for battle depend on how well the character and the army fought. Glory is gained on a per-round basis, and is derived from the size of the battle, with adjustments for various factors. See the “Chivalric Duties” chapter for more information on battles. Glory per Battle Round TournamentsGlory in tournaments may be gained two ways. First, through combat, with the usual “for love” rules (a tenth of normal Glory). Secondly, by winning in either of the two main events, the Joust or the Melee, which gives the Glory below. See the “Chivalric Duties” chapter for more information on tournaments. Neighborhood Tournament (about 100 knights participating, total) Local Tournament (500-1000 knights participating) Regional Tournament (1000-2500 participants) Regal Tournament (2500-5000 participants) Successful TasksThis Glory is gained when a task is successfully completed. A scenario or adventure may require several tasks to be
completed as part of the process. |
