White Bear & Red Moon is my first professionally published game, released in 1975 by The Chaosium. It was the first game produced by The Chaosium, and the first Gloranthan Game published as well.
See here for the story of how this game was conceived and produced.
Here are the covers of various editions of WB&RM.
First Edition,White Bear & Red Moon was 8½”x11” and had a mimeographed interior, done in multiple color inks on colored papers, where the colors of the pages matched the unit colors.
The cover was drawn by Steve Swenston and was a wrap-around. It was a real pain to fold it right. The cover was printed on 16"x11 stock, but had to be folded to compensate for the spine, so it did not cover the back completely.
Second edition was mimeographed, but was only 8½”x5½” in size. Its pages were also color-coded to match the unit counters. The cover was drawn by Gene Day.
After we got more professional, and the market would no longer tolerate games sold in ziplock bags, we released it in a handsome 2" thick box.
Chaosium licensed Avalon Hill to do a new edition of the game. It was hardly hanged at all, except for the cover, from the Chaosium boxed edition.
Hobby Japan released an edition under license from Avalon Hill, which, except for being in Japanese, was pretty much the same as the Avalon Hill edition. One difference was that they included a nice compartmentalized plastic box for the parts after they were punched.
Oriflam, Chaosium's French-language licensor, released a version.
